Internship Impacts Students of the Chemistry Department, FMIPA, University of Lampung at the Serang Fish Health and Environmental Testing Center

The Impact Internship Program is a form of learning implementation that provides students with the opportunity to gain direct work experience in the professional world. Through this program, two students from the Chemistry Department, FMIPA, Universitas Lampung, namely Radita Nailah Salsabila and Lusi Nagita Gultom, carried out internship activities at the Serang Fish Health and Environmental Testing Center from 16 February to 16 June 2026. The internship activities were carried out in the Drug and Residue Laboratory section, which plays a role in testing the quality, safety and content of various medicinal preparations and samples related to the fisheries sector.

During the internship, students are directly involved in various laboratory activities that support the analysis process. chemistry. Radita Nailah Salsabila raised an internship topic regarding testing drug samples in combination premix preparations using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method. Through these activities, students gain experience in sample preparation, making standard solutions, operating HPLC instruments, and processing and interpreting test result data to determine the levels of compounds being analyzed.

Meanwhile, Lusi Nagita Gultom carried out internship activities on the topic of testing metals and minerals in premixed drugs using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. This activity provides an understanding of the stages of sample preparation, the digestion process, the use of AAS instruments, as well as analysis of test results to determine the metal and mineral content contained in drug samples.

Apart from gaining a technical understanding of the use of modern analytical instruments, students also gain valuable experience in implementing laboratory work systems, testing quality control, implementing occupational safety and health (K3), and preparing laboratory documentation according to applicable standards. These various activities provide a real picture of the role of a chemical analyst in supporting the quality and safety of products being tested.

Through this Impact Internship Program, students not only develop the academic competencies they have acquired during their studies, but also improve their professional skills, ability to work together in teams, and readiness to face the world of work. It is hoped that the experience gained during the internship at the Serang Fish and Environmental Health Testing Center can be a useful provision for career development and support the birth of graduates from the Chemistry Department, FMIPA, Universitas Lampung who are superior, competent and ready to contribute to society.
