The establishment of the Chemistry Department as part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Lampung (Unila) began with a long -term plan for the development of Unila stated in the Decree (SK) of the Rector Number 34/KPTS/R/1986 concerning the Formation of the FMIPA Preparation Committee.

Next, in 1989 The decree, the Chemistry Study Program in 1989 began to accept new students of the Bachelor Program (S1). Increasing the status of the study program to majors obtained in 1994, namely with the issuance of Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 306/Dikti/Kep/1994.
