MA AnNur Karang Rejo's Educational Visit to the FMIPA Unila Chemistry Laboratory: Cultivating the Soul of a Researcher from an Early Age
The Department of Chemistry, FMIPA, Universitas Lampung (Unila) has just held an interesting educational visit agenda for students of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) AnNur Karang Rejo. Taking place in a chemistry laboratory environment, this event is designed as a means of introducing research facilities as well as direct practical experience for students. A total of 25 students accompanied by 6 accompanying teachers seemed enthusiastic about participating in the entire series of events together with local lecturers and students.
This agenda was officially opened by the Head of the Chemistry Department, FMIPA Unila, Prof. Dr. Mita Rilyanti, M.Sc. Also present was the Secretary of the Chemistry Study Program, Dr. Dian Herasari, M.Si., Chair of the AnNur Karang Rejo Foundation, Hj. Iswanti, S.Pd.I., Gr., and Head of MA AnNur, Iswandi, S.H. In his speech, Prof. Mita emphasized how important it is for students to have direct contact with the world of science from an early age in order to foster their interest in science.
Students were invited to take lab tour to take a close look at various facilities, sophisticated equipment, and research activities carried out by academics. This moment gave them a new perspective regarding the reality of the real world of lectures and chemical research.
Before getting into the core of practice, students first did a pretest to measure the extent of their initial understanding. After that, the students were invited directly to the practical table to carry out two main experiments, namely chemical bonds and reaction speed. With intensive guidance from lecturers and senior students, theories that are usually only found in textbooks now feel more applicable and enjoyable.
After the practical session ends, evaluation is carried out via post-test to monitor the increase in understanding of the material. Interestingly, the results show a significant increase in the knowledge level of the participants. As a form of motivation, the committee gave special appreciation to students with the highest scores and those who were most active during the agenda.
Through this initiative, FMIPA Universitas Lampung hopes to continue to contribute to strengthening scientific literacy in schools as well as producing young researchers in the future. The warm interactions between teachers, lecturers and students that arose during the event showed that studying chemistry can be an exciting and inspiring experience.
